About Us
Ever since I was fourteen I've had to struggle with Lyme’s Disease, constantly having pain in my body and not knowing what to do to make myself feel better. Just before I was finally diagnosed properly I had trouble walking and standing, the pain in my joints was that terrible.
In my teenage years I experimented with cannabis for recreation but I knew that this plant had medical benefits. I had my friend ask around for me because I was new and eventually we obtained a small amount. At the time we were probably just out of freshman year and as soon as I lit up everything Changed, I didn't have chronic pain when I consumed. I knew that I would need more but I was too young and this conversation with my mom would be uncomfortable because of the stigma behind "marijuana". Eventually one day after a couple years of consuming cannabis in secret I talked to my mom about getting a medical cannabis card. The process took about a week but eventually I received my medical cannabis card. Receiving the card was a relief. At the time, the news had been showing people getting sick and even passing out because of fake THC cartridges. So with a visit to a dispensary I talked to a pharmacist and walked out with untainted cannabis controlled by the government to help me.
Since I have joined the medical marijuana program I began the start of my education in the field of cannabis. I started mostly by watching Youtube videos and asking questions at the dispensary but then I started to feel more knowledgeable than the employees at certain dispensaries. They just didn't seem very well educated on what they were selling. In my opinion this is because of how cannabis is set up legally in New York State. There's no room for small business and little to no public health and safety education on cannabis since The War on Drugs or the Public Service ads of kids deflated on the couch on drugs they showed during cartoons.
When cannabis becomes legalized for recreational use or laws change in New York State/Federally I think we'll see a real change on how cannabis is seen and it would allow research on it’s health benefits and so much more. If cannabis were to become legalized today the government would make millions, probably billions, over time on taxes and save money spent keeping people in jail for the nonviolent offense of consuming a plant. Along with money from taxes, the government would also see benefits from a boosted economy after legalization. Cannabis is a large industry, with many different markets and niches that will create jobs for skilled workers along with jobs for all kinds of people from all walks of life.
I feel as though there are millions of people just like me, who had to go to bad parts of town or break unjust laws just to get their medicine or just being forced to participate in the black market because of a medically beneficial plant being illegal. I want to help people suffering just like me and I want to help employ people who have been incarcerated just because of cannabis.
